Remington's work provokes reflection. Instead of showing what any sojourner could see,
her paintings invite viewers to experience a response to a place.
Think of Rothko (spiritual majesty) meets O'Keefe (commitment to locality)."

The Process

EARTH PAINTING - DESCRIPTION

Maggie Remington Earth PaintingsMaggie "paints" with natural earth pigments, rich in color and texture — dirt, mud, sand, and rock— that she crushes, mixes, and applies to raw unprimed unstretched canvas Using her hands or weeds, branches, sometimes even a brush, she applies color and texture. The process is very physical, as she stoops, bends, and becomes involved with her creation. Each paintings is also very spiritual, both in the making and the viewing.
