07-24-02 :: Chimney Rock, Owl Creek Pass #6 ::
Ridgway, Colorado :: Devil's Tower :: 42" x 73"

I stopped at a field full of wild flowers, and just through the trees, I saw the powerful Chimney Rock
higher up the mountain. This painting just emerged.
When I stepped back and walked around to the other side of the painting, which obviously was the bottom,
I realized that it depicted Devil’s Tower in Wyoming, where I had visited in 1992.
I had painted it upside down, knowing that it seemed to be a tower but was surprised
when Devil’s Tower is what appeared. The sky has so much activity in it.
